The Power Division on Wednesday has asked all government and non-government offices and institutions to keep air-conditioner (AC) temperature at 25°C, in order to practice austerity in electricity consumption.
While issuing the order, the division referred to a 2009 cabinet decision fixing the said temperature at the lower limit for room cooling systems.
"The Power vision urges all to comply with the (2009) Cabinet meeting decision as some offices of late are not properly following that directive," reads a PID handout.
The cabinet in a meeting on August 24, 2009 fixed the lower limit of AC temperatures at 25°C to minimise power usage while the government subsequently relaxed officials' dress code so they could be comfortable in hot weather without lessening AC temperatures.
