BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would not get chance to cast her vote in the much talked Dhaka city corporations polls slated to be held on April 28.
The former premier said this responding to a query of a journalist at the press conference at her Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday.
“I am not a city corporation voter. I am a voter of Dhaka cantonment area and it is not under city corporation,” said Khaleda.
Khaleda Zia stayed in cantonment's Sahed Moinul Road house. In 2010, the allotment of the house was canceled by a court verdict and she was evicted from her residence.
Since then, she has been staying in a rented house named Firoza in Gulshan 2.
She last cast her vote in 2008 election and that time she was voter of cantonment. As her party boycotted the January 5 election, she did not get chance to cast vote.
Responding to a query whether the countrywide transport blockade is on, Khaleda said, “Blockade is not my programme. It is the programme of 20-party. As we could not sit together, we could not take any decision. But you see the blockade programme is now inactive.”
If your party-backed candidates were defeated in the polls what would be the party programme, Khaleda said: “Let the elections to be held and we will see the results and then we will take decision.”
Regarding the ruling party leaders’ allegation and election commission's allegation of violating electoral code of conduct, as she campaigned with a huge motorcade, Khaleda said: “There were only a few security vehicles and a vehicle for women. There were more media cars. Then how the electoral code of conduct was violated? The ministers have been campaigning but the election commission is silent.”
When asked about whether there was any backdoor negotiation on stopping movement, Khaleda said: “It is not true. We have to resolve our problem and also publicly. Why diplomats will resolve the crisis. Why foreigners will interfere in our internal matters?”
