Trouble flared after the Jubo League's Bhabanipur union unit chief, Ramkrishna Das, realised the daughter of another committee member had been charged registration fees to sit the SSC examination at Bhabanipur High School in Sherpur upazila, according to witnesses.
An enraged Ramkrishna rushed to the school and verbally abused its principal, Mokhlesur Rahman, before snatching his mobile phone and trying to throw a stapler at him.
Another teacher, Amirul Islam, stepped up to protect the principal and was assaulted. He had to be admitted to a local clinic for treatment.
Ramkrishna fled the scene after Amirul's relatives rushed to the school on hearing about the assault.
A case was filed against Ramkrishna over the incident the same night, police said.
The accused, who is also a member of the school's management committee, went into hiding and could not be reached for comments.
Teachers of the school have warned of demonstrations if the attacker is not arrested and punished.
Jubo League's Sherpur upazila unit chief Tarikul Islam said they would take disciplinary action against Ramkrishna if he was found guilty.
