20-party threatens all-out strike

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has threatened to enforce an all-out strike, along with the ongoing nationwide transport blockade, if the government does not give in to its demands by February 14.

Salahuddin Ahmed, joint secretary general of the party, made the announcement through a press statement while in hiding.

According to the press note, the demands include elections under a non-partisan interim government, putting a stop to the extra-judicial killing and repression of opposition leaders and activists and the unconditional release of all leaders and activists of the coalition.

“If the government does not give in to our demands, we will enforce all-out strike along with other tougher programmes, and the blockade will remain underway alongside from February 15.”

Salahuddin, on behalf of Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, urged law enforcers  not to turn the country into a dreadful locality to stay in power.

Additionally, the opposition alliance will hold a peaceful demonstration on the same day in all upazilas, municipalities, district headquarters, and cities across the country.

The leaders and activists of the alliance were urged to participate in those programmes in order to make the ongoing movement a success.
