BNP blames government for sabotage

Update : 07 Feb 2015, 06:56 PM

Disowning the heinous attack on a police-escorted bus in Gaibandha on Friday night, the BNP has rather accused the government of carrying out sabotages during their ongoing blockade and hartal programmes.

“The [BNP-led 20-party] alliance leaders and activists were not involved in such heinous act,” said a statement issued by BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed yesterday.

Asking party leaders and activists to continue the non-stop agitations, the BNP leader said ouster of the Awami League-led government was now a matter of time.

The statement came a day after the arson attack in Gaibandha that claimed six lives and causing burn injuries to around 40.

“The government is blaming the BNP to divert the people’s attention,” the party says urging the law enforcers not to stand against the people, rather serve them.

The BNP also claimed that the Awami League had made a mistake by holding a “farcical” election on January 5 last year.

“The BNP-led 20-party alliance and other democratic parties’ decision of boycotting the election was historically correct. The political problem was created by [Prime Minister] Sheikh Hasina through the 15th amendment to the constitution. She has to resolve the crisis by scrapping the amendment,” the statement added.

The BNP-led 20-party combine has been enforcing countrywide blockade since January 6 and announced hartals amid the strike.

The alliance on Friday called 72-hour nationwide hartal from 6am today until 6am Wednesday to materialise the demand of election under a non-partisan government.

Salahuddin alleged that the government wanted to save itself from public wreath by repressing the opposition leaders and activists.

He also said the country turned into a “dreadful police state” and that there was no alternative to non-stop movement. “The government has compelled the people to wage non-stop movement on the street through closing all the doors of constitutional, democratic and systematic movements.”
