Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu has said the government would give permission for rallies if BNP had not carried out violence in the country.
The minister made the statement in a press briefing on country’s present political situation at the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
He said: “The government took such steps as they [BNP] carried out violence from two days ahead of their January 5 programme.
“Following al-Qaeda leader Laden’s style, Tarique Rahman also sent video messages directing the party men to carry out violence in the country.”
Mentioning that Khaleda was holding rallies in different areas of the country with government’s permission, Inu said: "Everyone has the right to hold rallies. But we took tougher stance as we had information regarding possible violence."
