Inu: January 5 poll foiled conspiracy

Update : 05 Jan 2015, 07:28 PM

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said the January 5 polls had thwarted the conspiracy of forming unusual government that aimed to nullify the constitutional democratic process through militancy, vandalism and subversive activities.

The minister passed the remarks while talking to reporters at his secretariat office.

Questioning the endeavour of terming the January 5 election a “stigma,” Inu said: “The people who are trying to deliver such word, do not they see that Begum Khaleda Zia is stigmatising the democracy continuously  through not acknowledging her mistake or apologising to the people as well as not leaving friendship with militancy?”

Mentioning that leaving militancy was necessary to save democracy, the minister said: “Khaleda Zia is trying to establish unlawful militancy in the country nullifying democracy in the name of discussion.”

Meanwhile, lawmaker of a Jessore constituency Kazi Nabil Ahmed said the rise of militancy had been checked in the country because of the sagacious leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The continuation of democracy and development has been possible because of holding of the general election on January 5 last year,” he said adding that otherwise, the BNP-Jamaat nexus would have transformed the country into a terrorist one like Pakistan.

The lawmaker was addressing a rally organised by Jessore city and municipality units of the ruling Awami League at Chourasta Intersection in the town yesterday.

He alleged that the BNP-Jamaat men had created an anarchic situation in the country in the name of pursuing their so-called demand for holding elections under a caretaker government.

Claiming that development was guaranteed when Awami League was in power, the lawmaker said the country achieved bumper production in agricultural sector.

“Now we can export rice to foreign countries. The literacy rate has increased while the rate of deaths of mother and children have been decreased,” he said.

“We outpaced Pakistan in the human development index. We also topped over India in several other aspects of development,” Nabil added.

Comparing Sheikh Hasina with former Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the lawmaker said if the Awami League was in power for the next 20 years, “Bangladesh will become a developed country.”

Claiming that the future of BNP was bleak, he said it had no contact with the people.

Awami League leaders Shahidul Islam, Kamrujjaman Chunnu, Haidar Goni Khan, Mohith Kumar Nath also spoke on the occasion with senior Awami League leader Abul Hossain in the chair.
