AL, BNP at each other over recent communal violence

“We have found evidences that AL men were involved in attacks on Hindus in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbarhia,” the BNP leader alleged. He alleged that Hindus in Nasirnagar said the police did not help them when they were attacked. In another press briefing on Saturday afternoon, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif condemned BNP's accusatory statement at the AL party office in Dhanmondi. Hanif said: “BNP and Jamaat is behind the attacks. They are trying to create the unrest to stop the progress made by the Awami League government.” A BNP delegation led by Hafizuddin Ahmed visited Brahmanbarhia on Friday, where at least 15 temples were vandalised and over a hundred homes were looted on Oct 30. Hanif said, Hafizuddin himself was involved in attacks on the Hindu community in Bhola including Lalmohan upazila and Tamazuddin upazila in 1991 and in 2001 when BNP was in power.
