Update : 21 Dec 2014, 09:00 AM

Three arrest warrants have been issued against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a day over three separate defamation cases filed for calling Bangabandhu a "razakar."

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka and District and Session Judge's Court of Mymensingh and Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Lakhsmipur issued the warrants.

After hearing the complaint, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Waez Kuruni Khan Chowdhury took the complaint into cognisance and issued the warrant on Sunday afternoon.

On December 18, General Secretary of Awami Hawkers League Abdul Mannan filed a complaint with the court.

In the meantime, Ahsan Habib, Judge of District and Session Judge's Court 1 in Mymensingh issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman after filing a defamation case against the BNP leader in the afternoon.

Organising Secretary of Chhatra League of Mymensingh district unit filed the case on Sunday.

In Lakshmipur, Akhtaruzzaman, Judge of Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman after filing a 50 crore defamation case against the BNP leader in the afternoon.

The court also ordered Tarique to appear before the court on February 3, 2015.

Md Shahadat Hossain Sharif, organising secretary of Chhatra League of Lakshmipur district unit, filed the case with the court on Sunday.

On December 15, Tarique, while addressing a programme in London, called Bangladesh’s founding president Bangabandhu a “Razakar,” a term which has become synonymous with a collaborator or traitor of Pakistani military since the 1971 Liberation War.

Another Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman on the same charge on December 18.

Tarique has been in London since September 11, 2008 on medical grounds after securing parole in various cases.

He faces 14 charges, of which four, including the August 21 grenade attack case, are on trial and the rest are stayed.
