Awami League's Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has said if the people of Bangladesh found Tarique Rahman they would have cut off his tongue for making false statement against Bangabadhu.
He made the statement while addressing a press conference regarding Tarique’s statement that termed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman “a razakar.”
He said: “Tarique is making such statements because he is a ISI agent and he transfers informations to them. Only a drug addict can make such statements.”
“Zia and Khaleda have failed to teach right things to Tarique, this is not my statement but these are the words of former BNP leader Colonel Oli Ahmed,” Hasan said.
The Awami League leader said: “Oil Ahmed even said that if a mother is bad then why will the son also be bad.”
Meanwhile, he even showed a affidavit that stated Tarique Rahman's declaration of resigning from the post of senior general secretary of BNP and from active politics.
The affidavit was written on a TK50 stamp.
While addressing a programme in London, Tarique called Bangladesh’s founding president Bangabandhu a “Razakar,”, a term which has become synonymous with a collaborator or traitor since the 1971 Liberation War.
A Dhaka court had issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman in a defamation case for calling Bangabandhu "Pakbandhu" on December 10.
Tarique has been in London since September 11, 2008 on medical grounds after securing parole in various cases.
He faces 14 charges, of which four, including the August 21 grenade attack case, are on trial and the rest are stayed.
