BNP demands judicial inquiry into extrajudicial killings

Update : 19 Jun 2016, 08:37 PM
“We opposed such extrajudicial killings from the beginning. We are demanding judicial inquiry into such extrajudicial killings and asking to stop such killings immediately,” said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party's secretary general. Addressing a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters, the BNP leader mentioned about Fahim killing and said: “The incident should be investigated immediately. It is completely out of law. People cannot accept the killing of a person who is in police remand.” Saying that the government has failed to curb militancy, the BNP leader said: “Why are they [government] playing with such a complicated and complex issue? The only reason is that they have completely failed to identify the problem and to identify the masterminds. Without any proper investigation, they want to complete their responsibility by blaming the BNP and opposition parties.” Referring to the extrajudicial deaths of suspected militants like Shariful, Fahim and other, Fakhrul said: “From such incidents, it is clear that they were killed without unearthing the real incident. Questions also come to peoples' minds about whether the government is involved with those incidents.” Criticising the anti-militancy drive, Fakhrul said: “On one week of drive, 13,000 people were arrested and they [government] are saying among those only 179 are militants. Then the rest of the people are common people.”
