The High Court has extended its earlier orders for different periods that granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in two separate cases.
Two separate HC benches yesterday passed the extension orders following two petitions filed by Fakhrul in this regard.
One case was filed with Ramna police station for killing a traffic constable, Ferdous Khalil, after torching a police bus in the capital’s Bangla Motor on last December 24 during an anti-government demonstration of the BNP-led of 18-party alliance (now 20-party combine).
The second case filed with Shahbagh police station regarding the November 28 attack on a passenger bus near Shishu Park in the capital during BNP’s blockade.
The HC extended the bail in the case of Ramna police station for next one year. Earlier in March, it granted him bail for six months in this case.
Fakhrul’s counsel Sagir Hossain Leon told the Dhaka Tribune: “Court issued the rule in April seeking explanation from the government as to why Fakhrul should not be granted regular bail in this case. Now, he has received bail in all 21 cases filed against him.”
