It is not possible to topple the government by fixing any time frame, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
However, people can compel the government to resign, belives the BNP.
Mirza Fakhrul said: “We believe the sooner the people organise and take to the street, the sooner the government will be compelled to resign from the office.”
The BNP secretary general made the remarks in response to a query at a programme titled “Meet the Reporters’’ organised by Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital.
He said: “People never accepted any misdeeds and will not accept it in the future either. People did not participate in the January 5 election. The democratic world also did not support the election.
“Everybody hopes participatory and credible election will take place before 2019.”
He also said the BNP does not believe in any trump card.
The BNP does not want to wage any movement rather wants to resolve the crisis through talks, Mirza Fakhrul addded.
'Dialogue will take place in time'
The party spokesperson said: “Awami League leaders have said dialogue would not take place but they will have to sit for talks. They have said BNP has to cut its ties with Jamaat for holding talks but the Awami League did hold talks with the BNP when Jamaat was with the party.”
“So dialogue will take place in time,” he added.
He said dialogue took place when the special envoy of the United Nations mediated it and at that time the Awami League said fresh election would be given soon after holding talks.
Regarding the party’s ongoing movement, Fakhrul said: “When you drive a car, you first go through the first gear then the second gear and then gradually the top gear. It is the science of movement. Similarly, the BNP’s movement would be intensified gradually.”
DRU President Sahed Chowdhury and General Secretary Ilyas Khan and other leaders of the organisation were also present in the programme.
