Awami League leaders have said they do not bother about the BNP’s “empty” threat of launching an anti-government movement after Eid.
Despite its all-out efforts, the BNP had failed to resist the January 5 national polls, they said, adding that the party will not be able to wage the movement afresh whatever strategy it devises.
The ruling party leaders also think that the BNP does not have the organisational strength to launch the movement.
The BNP, the arch-rival of the ruling Awami League, had threatened to wage the anti-government movement after Eid-ul-Fitr. The former opposition claimed that if the government failed to take necessary steps to hold dialogues and restore the caretaker government, they will wage a movement to oust the government.
Mentioning the BNP’s earlier threats for the movement, Awami League Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim said: “After 2009, every year we hear the BNP launching the movement after Eid. We are yet to see any action.”
Several Awami League leaders think that the BNP had used all of its political tool before the January 5 elections and now it has no minimum strength to continue with any movement.
“Their threat is like an empty sound. We are not taking it seriously,” another AL leader Nuh-Ul-Alam Lenin told the Dhaka Tribune.
He added: “We think they will not able to wage any movement. This is why we do not need to take preparation to face them.”
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who is also doubtful about the movement, said they would take necessary action after seeing their movement.
Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya at a rally in the capital recently said the government would respond after ‘seeing the character of their movement’.
“The government will cooperate with them if they wage the movement peacefully. If they create mayhem, we will give them a befitting reply,” Maya, also secretary of Awami League Dhaka city unit, said.
They were ready to face any situation, he added.
