Five Bangali settler groups have called for 48 hours of strike in the three districts comprising the Chittagong Hill Tracts demanding the cancellation of a law passed to resolve land disputes in the region. The five groups - Parbatta Bangali Chhatra Parisad (PBCP), Parbatta Bangali Chhatra Aikya Parishad (PBCAP), Parbatta Chattagram Samo Adhikar Andolon (PCSAA), Parbatta Nagorik Parishad (PNP) and Parbatta Gono Parishad (PGP) – have called the hartal for Thursday and Sunday. The announcement was made at a meeting at Shaplachattar area Khagrachhari town on Wednesday noon. On August 1, the cabinet approved the draft of Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission (amendment) Act, 2016 at a weekly meeting. The move came as part of the government's efforts to resolve the longstanding land dispute problems at Chittagong Hill Tracts.
