BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said the government came to office riding on “barrels of guns” that would one day backfire.
The former premier also reiterated her demand of holding elections soon after arranging dialogues with political parties to resolve the deadlock.
“This illegal government has been staying in the office by using the force of gun power. We will wage movement after Eid. I want to tell the government to take initiative for holding election under a non-partisan government, as it still has time in its hand,” she said while attending an iftar party at the capital’s Ladies Club, organised by the Liberal Democratic Party, a member of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Issuing a note of warning, Khaleda said: “It is not possible to stay in office for a long time using gun power. This gun power will backfire one day. So be careful before the time expires.”
The BNP chief said the law and order situation of the country was shattered as there was no legitimate government in the country.
“The level of repression, killing and abduction has been increasing with each passing day. Earlier, only politicians were being abducted, but now businessmen and journalists are not being spared.”
Khaleda alleged that ruling party goons and intelligence officials of RAB-police were involved with the killings and abductions.
“RAB is involved with the killings and abductions. They abducted many people and then killed them. As long as RAB remains, killing and abduction will not be stooped. They are killing people like a serial killer in exchange of money.”
The BNP chief reiterated her call for the disbandment of the crime-busting elite force as it failed to ensure people’s security.
Calling upon other political parties to join the BNP-led alliance’s movement that is slated to be waged after Eid, Khaleda said: “Samyabadi Dal has joined with us and many others are contacting with us. I wish to say it is not the time to judge who is big or who is small. We have to be united to wage movement to oust the fascist government from office.”
LDP chief Oli Ahmed, and senior leaders from the BNP and other alliance members joined the iftar party.
