Convening BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to break ties with the Jamaat-e-Islami, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the BNP had not taken part in the January 5 election because Jamaat-e-Islami was not allowed not participate in it.
She made the remark on Friday while addressing a programme at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital marking the Homecoming Day of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Thanks to Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh is finally relieved from the shame of war criminals taking part in the elections,” said Hasina.
She warned that every anarchic move would be handled strictly and urged the people to resist unrest.
The premier said the people of the country wanted peace.
People of the country had marked their denial to terrorism, militancy and corruption through the January 5 election, she said.
Hasina took a pledge to direct the country towards the path of democracy and development at the programme.
