Awami League advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta on Monday said voters have rejected BNP Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman's call for boycotting the votes.
BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, in a message to the nation, called upon people to unite and resist the government’s autocracy and its farcial polls at any cost.
The video message was sent from the United Kingdom on Saturday, a day ahead of the 10th parliamentary elections in the country.
“That 42% of all votes have been cast proves that no one responded to the dramatic call made by opposition leader’s son,” he said.
The senior Awami League leader was speaking during a discussion at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the capital, reports BSS.
Describing the 10th parliamentary polls, Suranjit said people have neither resisted nor boycotted the votes.
Calling upon the BNP, the AL leader said: “If you [opposition] have any constitutional demand than come to the path of democracy as we can not go out of the constitution.”
Suranjit urged the 18-party leaders to join the path of democracy and peace and give up associating with terrorists’ such as the Jamaat-e-Islami.
