Environment Minister Hasan Mahmud has asked Awami League activists to “stay alert” ahead of the BNP's Dhaka march programme on December 29.
“Outsiders have begun coming in to Dhaka. Nab these outsiders and hand them over to the police,” he said at a programme in the capital on Thursday.
Main opposition BNP, who will not be participating in the January 5 polls, has called for the march, which they've dubbed the "March for Democracy", slated a week ahead of the elections.
“No chaos will be tolerated in the name of this gathering,” Hasan Mahmud said. “We will not sit by and watch as they unleash chaos in the capital.”
He was speaking to Awami League supporters during a programme marking the death anniversary of their late leader Abdur Razzak.
Earlier, Home Minister MK Alamgir requested the Election Commission to take steps against the BNP's Dhaka march.
Awami League leaders have been saying that any form of violence incited by the programme will not be tolerated.
Though several BNP leaders have been arrested after the programme's announcement, the party is still determined to carry out its Dhaka march.
