BNP 'upset' with Pakistan

Update : 24 Dec 2013, 02:15 PM

Pakistan parliament's recent resolution over executed war criminal Abdul Quader Molla has upset BNP, the party's Chairperson Khaleda Zia said on Tuesday.

However, any further elaborations on this issue were avoided during her address to the nation.

“We have already clarified our position regarding this matter,” she said. However, it remained unclear what the opposition chief was referring to.

Opposition chief Khaleda Zia came under criticism from Awami League leaders in recent times because of her mum regarding the Pakistan issue.

After war crimes convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Molla was executed on December 12, several quarters of Pakistan, including its parliament, moved for Molla.

Lately, the Pakistan parliament passed a resolution expressing their concern regarding the execution of Quader Molla. This instigated a wave of protests throughout the nation.

Several ministers and Awami League leaders said this was the interference of Pakistan in the internal affairs of Bangladesh. However, Pakistan denied it.

Regarding the war crimes trials, Khaleda Zia, in her presser, reminded that the trial standards faced international criticism.

“It was Awami League who signed a pact with Pakistan in 1973 pledging no trials of war criminals,” Khaleda said.

“Now, if there is a diplomatic crisis, it should be solved in line with due procedures,” she said apparently pointing to the recent protests against Pakistan.

“The government has failed diplomatically. Now they are doing dirty politics with it,” she added.

After the resolution in the Pakistan parliament, Ganajagaran Mancha moved calling for severing all diplomatic ties with the country.
