The ambassadors and high commissioners of five countries held a meeting with a two-member BNP delegation at Heritage Hotel in capital’s Gulshan on Sunday noon.
Diplomats from UK, Canada, Netherlands, Australia and South Korea met BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, and Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Advisor Sabihuddin Ahmed.
However, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune that it was not a meeting. “We had met at a lunch programme,” he said after the meeting.
According to BNP insiders, they have discussed the latest political situation of the country centring the January 5 polls.
The main opposition BNP is boycotting the polls going to be held under the polls-time all-party government.
The BNP-led opposition alliance has been staging protests to defer the polls until they reach a consensus with the ruling party.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the BNP has missed the election train adding that they could join the next one.
The European Union on Friday said they would not send observers as the major parties failed to create congenial atmospheres for transparent, inclusive and credible elections.
