The Election Commission sought efforts from President Abdul Hamid to hold credible elections in participation of all parties, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said.
The chief election commissioner made the comment after a nearly two hour long meeting with the president on Tuesday afternoon.
The EC delegation met the president ahead of main opposition BNP’s schedule at the Bangabhaban.
“The EC wants to hold a credible polls in participation of all political parties,” he said. “We informed the president about the election preparations.”
The CEC asserted that his commission will ensure a level-playing filed for all concerned in this regard. “The polls-schedule will be announced in due time.”
Ruling Awami League and main opposition BNP are at crossroads over how the upcoming January elections will be held.
On Monday, new ministers were sworn in to the cabinet and are expected to guide the country through to the next elected government.
BNP had hinted they will have no objections if the elections are administered by the president.
The five-member EC delegation that met the president included the CEC, Election Commissioners Abdul Mobarak, Abu Hafiz, Mohammad Shah Nawaz and EC Secretary Mohammad Sadiq.
The meeting began at 3:35pm and ended at around 5:10pm.
