A Dhaka court on Thursday placed former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Sultan Salahuddin Tuku on another 20 days of remand in relation to five cases filed with Ramna and Shahbagh police stations.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Habibur Rahman passed the order on Thursday after the investigation officers of the cases sought 50 days remand of the BNP leader.
Meanwhile, the court rejected both the bail and remand pleas in another case filed with Shahbagh police station.
On October 31, a Dhaka court denied the bail and remand petitions for Tuku in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over the Hefazat-e-Islam violence on May 5 in the capital.
The court, however, allowed the police to interrogate Tuku, if necessary, at the jail gate.
Earlier, on October 22, another Dhaka court placed Tuku on a six-day remand in a case filed for his alleged involvement in launching an attack on a police official and preventing law enforcers from discharging their duties in front of the BNP central office on October 21.
On October 21, Tuku was detained from BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s convoy during a scuffle between police and her personal staff during Khaleda’s visit to the party headquarters at Nayapaltan for a meeting with ailing BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
