Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP’s promise of a new politics meant different ways of continuing tyranny and crime within the country.
Speaking to a crowd in Keraniganj on Thursday afternoon, the premier said BNP possess only two qualities – one of corruption and the other of killing people.
“They do not want peace, they want violence, they like murderers, they like war criminals,” Hasina said.
She stressed that BNP will put an end to the developmental steps, taken by Awami League during its running term, if elected in the upcoming national elections.
Hasina called upon all to vote for Awami League to ensure that “the flag of freedom does not fall into the clutches of killers and war criminals.”
Hasina blamed BNP for the violence during the recent shutdowns carried out by the opposition 18-party alliance. “They claimed 20 lives, several others have been injured, children burned.”
“I have never seen a Muslim killing or setting fire to another Muslim in my entire life,” she said.
The premier pulled up BNP and its founder Ziaur Rahman for hindering the war criminals’ trials. “We have delivered on our promises of bringing the war criminals to justice.”
Meanwhile, the Awami League president referred to the phone conversation and launched a stinging attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The Awami League seems to be on the electoral tides from what is to be interpreted from the recent course of events.
However, the disparity with main opposition BNP over how the elections will be held remains.
In light of recent events, both parties have said they are still open for dialogue.
