Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has once again called for dialogue with the leader of the opposition to determine the interim government under which to hold the next general election.
The premier also proposed that the opposition chief should express her preference for a ministry under the interim government.
Hasina’s proposal came at a rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Sunday to mark the historic Jail Killing Day.
“Let’s discus. The door is still open for dialogue,” she urged the opposition leader.
“I would ask the leader of the opposition to choose whichever ministry she wants, but she does not agree to hold talks, rather she called another spell of hartal.”
The premier was addressing the party programme as the chief guest.
In her address, Hasina said the door was open for dialogue, but before that, the BNP chief must withdraw shutdown and promise the countrymen no-shutdown further.
The ruling party held the rally apparently to flex its muscle.
Accompanied by its dozens of lawmakers, the ruling Awami League leaders and activists attended the rally carrying the party’s election symbol – Boat, chanting slogans and requesting vote for the party in the next general election.
The prime minister also requested the opposition to withdraw hartal for the sake of Junior School Certificate examination scheduled to begin today on November 4.
“You have no right to break the hearts of 2.1 million JSC examinees. Please, withdraw hartal and sit with us for talks,” she said.
The Awami League leaders recalled that they never went for a shutdown when there were public examinations.
Sheikh Hasina said the 10th national elections would be held on time despite the opposition’s efforts to save the war criminals by enforcing plenty of hartals.
