Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Saturday said the path of a multi-party political system in the country was started through the leadership of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, paving the way for different political parties to resume their activities.

He made the remarks while addressing a public rally organized by the Lalmonirhat district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The rally began in front of the Bangladesh Nationalist Railway Workers' Union office in the town, marched through major streets, and ended at the same venue, where a public meeting was held.

Dulu said the process of restoring the activities of different political parties began under Ziaur Rahman's leadership, eventually leading to the formation of the BNP on September 1, 1978.

He also said that Ziaur Rahman's political ideals and the party he founded continued to enjoy considerable public support. The BNP, he added, remains committed to establishing people's voting rights, democratic rights and political freedom.

Stressing the importance of public support, Dulu said it was the primary strength of any political party. He called upon all to play responsible roles in strengthening democracy, political rights and national unity to fulfil the aspirations of the people.

Acting general secretary of the district BNP and administrator of the Zila Parishad, AKM Mominul Haque; its joint general secretary, ABM Faruk Siddique; convener of the municipal BNP, Afzal; organizing secretary of the district BNP, Saju Patwary; convener of the district Jubo Dal, Vice President Anis; and its general secretary, Hasan Ali attended the rally, among others.
