A Dhaka court on Thursday denied the bail and remand petitions for former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Sultan Salahuddin Tuku in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over Hefazat-e-Islam violence on May 5 in the capital.
The court, however, allowed the police to interrogate Tuku, if necessary, at the jail gate.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah passed the order when investigation officers produced Tuku before the court seeking a 30-day remand petition in three cases.
Earlier on October 22, another Dhaka court placed Tuku on a six-day remand in a case filed for allegedly launching an attack on a police official and preventing law enforcers from discharging their duties in front of BNP central office on October 21.
Defence counsel Masud Ahmed Talukdar filed petitions for bail and rejection of remand prayer for the BNP leader.
After hearing the court rejected both remand and bail petitions in the cases.
On October 21, Tuku was detained from BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s convoy during a scuffle between police and her personal staff during Khaled’s visit to the party headquarters at Nayapaltan for meeting ailing BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
