Fakhrul smells conspiracy behind dialogue offer

Update : 26 Oct 2013, 07:53 PM

Main opposition BNP on Saturday alleged that in the name of dialogue, the government was hatching conspiracy to repress the opposition leaders and activists and mislead the people of the country.

“They [ruling party] are afraid of free, fair and credible elections,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday.

Addressing a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan office, the opposition spokesman also said: “It is not possible to hold free and fair elections under an influenced administration. People of the country and the international community also agreed on this issue. We want to say clearly that the ongoing movement will end only after the introduction of a non-partisan interim government.”

Condemning what he said was “countrywide killing and oppression” on opposition activists, he alleged that the law enforcement agencies killed, attacked, tortured, oppressed, arrested, filed cases and harassed opposition supporters during BNP’s Friday’s demonstration programmes.

Fakrul alleged that these oppressive actions were carried out by police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, and the “criminals” of the ruling party.

He claimed that eight were killed and more than 650 people were injured around the country on Friday. “It is very unfortunate that the Awami League is trying to polarise law enforcers.”
