Calls for continuing JS session after Oct 24 is a conspiracy: BN

Update : 12 Oct 2013, 04:22 PM

The main opposition BNP has said it was a conspiracy for the ruling party lawmakers to demand the continuation of the parliament’s session after October 24.

“We want to say clearly, whether the session will be continued or not, the parliament should be dissolved after October 24. Provision of non-partisan interim government should be inserted to the constitution,” opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque, told journalists at a press briefing at the media center of the parliament.

Referring to the prime minister’s statement that October 24 will be the last day of the parliament session, Farroque said Awami League leader

Tofail Ahmed and others on Wednesday took the floor on point of order, and demanded to continue the parliament’s session after October 24.

“We think that the demand was raised to mislead people and to resist the movement of election under a non-party government. It is a part of government’s conspiracy,” he alleged.

Farroque claimed that people want to know why the government now wanted to extend the session of the parliament.

He urged the government to pass a bill on non-partisan interim government in the ongoing session, for a free, fair and credible polls.

“The parliament session will sit on October 23. We still hope that the way Awami League passed Baksal in the parliament within five minutes, the same way the government will take initiative to pass a bill on non-party caretaker government.”

Asked whether the opposition MPs will resign from the parliament if the session continued after October 24, Farroque said, “The party high-ups will take the decision.”
