Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday said the country no longer wants the shadow of fascism, warning that if it returns, the outcome would be like before.
“Jamaat does not want to see any vote riggers anymore,” he said while officially launching his election campaign at a rally organized by Jamaat for the Dhaka-15 constituency in the afternoon. Shafiqur had submitted his nomination papers from this constituency for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
At the meeting, he criticized the current administration, saying, “If there were justice in the country, corruption and money laundering would not have occurred. During the Awami League’s rule, mirror houses were built, and even military officers were not spared.”
He added, “This time, the people are eager to make ‘Yes’ victorious in the referendum.” During the program, he handed over the combined election symbol stand to candidates nominated by the 10-party alliance in various Dhaka constituencies.
Shafiqur also highlighted local issues in Dhaka-15, saying, “There is no quality government hospital in this constituency, and the canals have turned into garbage dumps. If elected, I will make educational institutions world-class and address infrastructure problems.”
He emphasized: “Jamaat will not take donations from anyone, will create employment opportunities, and will ensure ‘Yes’ wins in the referendum.”
Special guests at the rally included Ducsu Vice President Sadiq Qayem and Dhaka-16 candidate and educationist Abdul Baten. Other speakers included Rezaul Karim Mahmud, Ameer of Kafrul North Thana; Abdul Matin Khan, Ameer of Kafrul West Thana, among others.
