Nasim’s statement is tantamount to sedition: BNP

Update : 26 Sep 2013, 01:22 PM

BNP on Thursday alleged the government has been threatening the officials in the administrationto take part in a lopsided election, which would be illegal and tantamount to “sedition.”

“We saw newspaper reports that Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim asked government officials to follow the government’s directives, otherwise face dire consequences. This clearly indicates the government is trying to hold a one-sided election by menacing its officials,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general of the party, said.

Addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital, Rizvi alleged this type of statement is “out of political norms, illegal and tantamount to sedition.”

Awami League Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim on Wednesday warned government officers of facing dire consequences if they fail to follow the government’s orders.

The BNP leader alleged the government has become desperate to hold a partisan election as it has become alienated from the people of the country.

They (AL) are now putting pressure on the administration to participate in the election under the incumbent prime minister, he alleged.

“This kind of threat and warning will not bring any result. Still you have time to pass a bill on the poll-time interim government, otherwise you will have to pay a huge price for this,” he warned.

Rizvi warned that if the demand is not met by October 24, BNP would wage a movement alongside the people of the nation.

Criticising the foreign minister, Rizvi said: “Our Dipu Moni is like [Sonali Danar Chil] of Jibananda Das. She flies across the globe, however, she is silent over BSF’s activities along the Bangladesh border.”
