Update : 02 Jun 2025, 01:46 PM

Top leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami, seeking the restoration of the party’s registration and electoral symbol, held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday.

The meeting began at 12:15pm in the conference room of the commission building in Agargaon.

The six-member delegation was led by Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad.

Other members of the delegation included Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Executive Committee Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarker, Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Mobarak Hossain and Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir.

Earlier, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday annulled a 2013 High Court verdict that had declared Jamaat's registration with the Election Commission illegal.

The ruling paved the way for Jamaat-e-Islami to seek the restoration of its registration.

Following the verdict, Jamaat’s counsel Adv Mohammad Shishir Manir told reporters at the court premises that they had requested a short order from the court.

He expressed hope that the short order would be available by Monday, after which it would be formally submitted to the Election Commission.

He also expressed optimism that the EC would promptly reinstate Jamaat’s registration and electoral symbol upon receiving the court’s order.
