After the BNP, a delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held discussions with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday evening to address issues concerning the upcoming national election and related reforms.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher participated in the meeting, which took place at the chief adviser’s official residence, the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Jamaat ameer expressed hope for a "meaningful election with a level playing field."
National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and Adviser Asif Mahmud were also present at the meeting alongside the chief adviser.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had called for a specific election roadmap to ensure the national election is held by December this year. The party emphasized three key issues in their discussions: reform efforts, the justice process, and the election.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain briefed reporters following their meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus at the same venue.
The BNP delegation, consisting of four members, participated in the meeting as part of efforts to ease the growing political tension in the country.
Other members of the delegation included Standing Committee Members Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed.
