Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday called on the country's youths to persist in their struggle without pause until their rightful demands are fulfilled.
Addressing a workers’ conference organized by the district and city units of the Jamaat at the Circuit House field in Mymensingh, he said that every major transformation in the world has been driven by the youth.
He pointed out that Bangladesh achieved independence through the efforts of young people in July and August, with many youths sacrificing their lives for the cause.
“Do not take rest in this struggle until your just demands are met,” he told the young participants.
He added: “You will be the leaders of tomorrow, and we will be your companions. This victory must not be used to bring any party or individual to power.”
Referring to past incidents, Shafiqur questioned the value of the sacrifices made if similar injustices continue to occur.
“If the same things are still happening, what was the purpose of all those lives lost and all that bloodshed? What will we tell the families of the martyrs? The souls of those who were martyred will curse us,” he said.
He urged that, in honour of the martyrs, the country must be cleansed of corruption, pollution, crime, and terrorism. “We must be ready to sacrifice our lives once again if needed,” he declared.
Shafiqur also alleged that the corrupt, fascist Awami League government looted billions of taka from the country and laundered it abroad.
He called for steps to repatriate that money and ensure justice for those who had fled to India.
