Rafiqul Amin, managing director of Destiny Group, has forms a new political party named the Bangladesh A-am Janata Party.

He officially announced the name of the party at a hotel in Banani, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.

Rafiqul himself is the convener of this new party, while the role of member secretary is held by Fatima Tasnim, a former leader of Gono Odhikar Parishad.

The event began with recitation from holy scriptures and a performance of the national anthem.

Leaders from various political and social organizations attended the ceremony.

During the event, Rafiqul presented the party’s future goals, objectives, and vision.

He said the BAJP will embrace the spirit of the Liberation War and the July uprising.

He also said that it will prioritize strengthening the defense system, safeguarding independence and sovereignty, resisting communalism, ensuring gender equality, empowering women, social protection, security for religious minorities, and special attention to underdeveloped communities and marginalized groups.

Rafiqul added that even after 54 years of independence, people in the country are still fighting various forms of deprivation and discrimination. “We want to play a leading role in establishing and realizing people's fundamental and political rights,” he said, seeking everyone's cooperation in this endeavour.

Notably, Rafiqul, in addition to being involved with Destiny Group, also serves as the managing director of Boishakhi Television and the editor of the daily newspaper Destiny.

He had been imprisoned for a long time in connection with money laundering and a corruption case by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding the Destiny Tree Plantation project.

He was released from prison following a shift in the political landscape in August.

Meanwhile, Fatima Tasnim, who has taken on the responsibility of the party’s member secretary, resigned from her position as a senior council member of Gono Odhikar Parishad on Sunday.

She announced this via a Facebook status on Tuesday, saying that although she was leaving Gono Odhikar Parishad, she was not quitting politics.
