In memory of the martyrs of the July-August uprising, the July Revolutionary Alliance (JRA) had organized an Iftar Mahfil and discussion meeting on Tuesday in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
Several members from different political parties gave speeches at the event.
Adviser to the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Dr Mahdi Amin, said: “Nowhere in the world only the political parties overthrew the fascists. It requires the participation of all.”
Mahdi stressed that If the BNP came to power, this massacre would be brought to justice.
Shafiqul Islam Masud, central working committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami said: “First of all, everyone needs to come together to form a national leadership.”
Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan Zonayed Saki remarked that the July uprising will open many doors of possibilities. “How we embrace it is the real challenge,” he said.
“When fascism emerges, it strives to survive with all its might. To counter this, the necessary human strength and unity cannot be achieved without the involvement of the youth,” he added.
Vice president and party spokesperson of Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa), Rashed Prodhan said: “After '71, the flag came, but sovereignty did not. It is controlled by India.”
He alleged that India's influence remains significant in Bangladesh's political affairs.
Rashed stressed that the main struggle for sovereignty is against India.
