Bangladesh has sought clarification from the Indian authorities about deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Bangladesh border.
“We have officially taken up the issue with the Indian authorities, seeking a clarification on it,” foreign ministry Director General Shameem Ahsan said.
Indian newspaper The Indian Express said New Delhi would deploy UAVs on the country’s border with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“The plan to deploy UAVs is picking up pace.We are actively pursuing it and would like to use them not only on the western border but also on the eastern border with Bangladesh,” the newspaper said quoting the BSF DG. The Bangladesh foreign ministry sought the clarification on Monday, he said.
The UAVs are reconnaissance aircraft that can fly at an altitude of 10,000-12,000 feet to capture images and relay real-time information on the movement on land.
