Ruhin Hossain, general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), on Tuesday said that the extent of corruption and bribery has grown, and extortion, occupation, and insecurity have become everyday companions.

He alleged that the injustice and mismanagement during the Awami League’s governance have not been eliminated. In fact, in many cases, these issues have increased.

Ruhin Hossain made these remarks while participating in the first day of the nationwide "Democracy March," during which the CPB held a foot march and public engagement from Purana Paltan Mor to Bahadur Shah Park in the capital.

He said that the arrogance of power has made popular uprisings questionable.

The CPB general secretary said that the influence of communal forces is growing, and people’s desire for democracy is being hindered.

To resolve this situation, the swift transfer of power to representatives elected directly by the people has become crucial.

Ruhin Hossain also criticized the interim government proposal, saying that every time it is mentioned, various "justifications and counter-arguments" are raised.

Ruhin Hossain said that reforms must continue, and delaying elections under the guise of reform is unacceptable.

He called for a clear date for the national parliamentary elections to be announced soon.

Accusing the government of trying to suppress the voices of the people through various directives, he noted the dismissal of many journalists and the pervasive reign of fear.

Ruhin Hossain said that this situation cannot be allowed to continue, urging the people to unite and fight against injustice in order to establish full democratic rights and bring about change.

Additionally, he demanded justice for the killings during recent uprisings, medical treatment for the injured, and rehabilitation for those affected.
