An investigation committee has been formed in Sirajganj’s Tarash upazila after Mohammad Bashed Ali, joint general secretary of the Swechasebak League in Deshigram union, was appointed as president of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal’s Deshigram union committee.
This cross-party appointment sparked criticism and raised questions about the committee formation process, leading the Tarash upazila BNP to form an investigation committee on Thursday night to probe the matter.
Meanwhile, allegations have been raised against Gopal Chandra, president of the upazila Krishak Dal, accusing him of forming these committees in exchange for unethical benefits.
Further allegations suggest that followers of the ousted Awami League, who are no longer active in their party, have also been given positions in these committees.
However, Gopal Chandra denied the allegations, calling them "baseless."
On Saturday afternoon, leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations from Deshigram union held protests and human chains on the Tarash Press Club premises, demanding the cancellation of the Krishak Dal union committees.
Additionally, the protesters submitted written complaints to the president and general secretary of the Tarash upazila and Sirajganj district BNP, seeking a resolution.
The matter garnered attention, with reports being published in various national and local newspapers. This prompted action from the organization's leaders.
