BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said Tarique Rahman, the party’s acting chairman, will return to Bangladesh after the conclusion of ongoing legal proceedings against him.
Fakhrul made the announcement upon his return from London at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
Responding to journalists' queries about Tarique's return, Fakhrul said: “Once the cases [against him] are disposed of, Tarique Rahman will come back to the country.”
Addressing the nation, he shared Tarique's message urging everyone to protect the hard-earned victory in August, emphasizing that only an elected government can resolve the country’s instability and highlighting the importance of implementing minimal reforms before holding elections.
On the political landscape, Fakhrul criticized recent remarks made by Information Adviser Md Nahid Islam.
During a meeting with a delegation from the British Global Partners Governance (GPG) on Wednesday, Nahid claimed that political parties are prioritizing elections over reforms and attempting to portray the interim government as ineffective.
Calling the statement anti-political, the BNP leader said political parties have consistently cooperated with the interim government.
During his visit to London, which began on November 30, Fakhrul participated in several events, including discussions with Tarique Rahman, a meeting with the BNP's UK chapter and a press conference.
Additionally, his wife received treatment during their stay.
