BNP senior leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Saturday called for a thorough review of recent incidents occurring under the guise of religion, urging everyone to remain cautious.

“We must look deeply into the incidents happening in the name of religion. We need to be cautious,” Khasru said at the 7th National Council of Gonoforum, held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.

Referring to recent developments in Chittagong and other parts of the country, the BNP standing committee member expressed his concern, terming the incidents “totally unexpected.”

“Those who haven't taken to the streets in 16 years are now staging demonstrations. Other driving forces are behind them, and it should not be ignored,” he remarked.

Highlighting the challenges facing the country, Khasru stressed the importance of moving toward a vision of a democratic and peaceful Bangladesh.

“We need to take the country to the place we have always dreamed of. In the past, when this vision was not pursued, it gave rise to monsters. The only way forward is through a peaceful transfer of power,” he said.

Khasru reiterated the need for a democratic order to restore the people's ownership of the country. He also pointed out the BNP's 31-point state reform outline, emphasizing it as a significant contribution to future governance.

The BNP leader assured that after the upcoming election, the formation of a national government will prioritize implementing the 31-point reform plan.

“There is no need for others to worry about reforms,” Khasru said, adding that the focus should be on electoral reforms to ensure the country returns to its rightful owners—the people.

Meanwhile, former minister and Awami League leader Asaduzzaman Noor was reportedly assaulted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
