The 1972 Constitution was not approved by an elected parliament in Bangladesh but rather by the Constituent Assembly formed by representatives elected in the 1970 general election of Pakistan, commented Bobby Hajjaj, chairman of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM).
He said that the Awami League imposed their party agenda and political motives to establish 'Mujibism'; this has been fully realized under Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian fascist government over the past 15 and a half years.
He made these remarks on Saturday at a media briefing titled "Proposals for Constitutional Reforms" in Banani, Dhaka.
Bobby Hajjaj mentioned the need for balanced changes in the state's power structure within a revised constitution, incorporating principles of the Liberation War, fulfilling the dreams of the 24's uprising, and permanently halting fascism.
He also demanded future decentralization of power and the amendment of any constitutional clauses to prevent the rise of fascism.
