Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has said that the Awami League will find no place in the future of Bangladesh, calling for vigilance to prevent any rise of "fascism" under the party.

"As long as we live, there will be no space for the Awami League in this country. We have defeated their fascist rule through struggle, and we must continue to resist them in the future," said Nur, speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by the Gazipur District Gono Odhikar Parishad on Wednesday at Maona intersection, Gazipur.

Nur accused foreign powers, including India, of attempting to restore the Awami League to power, linking the release of politician Saber Hossain Chowdhury to such efforts.

During his speech, Nur criticized the current economic situation, saying the rise in the cost of essential goods.

"People are suffering today due to the high prices of goods. Floods in some northern areas have damaged crops, reducing production, and causing price hikes. The government, which is not a political government, must prioritize ensuring that people do not suffer," he said.

He also called for continued subsidies on essential commodities such as rice, lentils, potatoes, and oil.

Regarding the upcoming national elections, Nur said that reforms must come before any election can take place.

"It will take two years for an election. We are not in favor of holding elections before necessary reforms," he added.

Nur credited the spontaneous resistance of ordinary citizens and students for ousting Sheikh Hasina’s government.

"The people and students' resistance has brought us freedom. This movement was led by political leaders, but without the sacrifices of ordinary students, it would not have succeeded," he added.

Addressing the interim government, Nur said: "We want to assist you. People didn’t put you in power just for an election. You must fulfill public expectations by reforming the state and creating a people-friendly government.

"We will support you until power is handed over to elected representatives after the reforms, but your current approach is concerning," he added.
