Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has now publicly announced its committee at Jagannath University (JnU).
A statement titled "Statement in Protest of False Information Published by Daily Sangbad" was posted on a Facebook page called "Islami Chhatra Shibir Jagannath University," on Friday.
According to sources, Md Iqbal Hossain, a student from the Mathematics Department (2014-15 session), is the president of the JnU unit of Chhatra Shibir.
The secretary is Md Asadul Islam from the History Department (2016-17 session), and the publicity secretary is Md Ibrahim Ali from the Political Science Department (2018-19 session).
In the statement, the publicity secretary accused JnU's journalists of spreading false information against Shibir in collaboration with the Chhatra League, labeling ordinary students as Shibir members.
He condemned this as false propaganda.
Md Asadul Islam, Shibir's secretary, said: "For years, Islami Chhatra Shibir has been tagged with various allegations, but we continue to operate and will do so in the future."
When asked about the formation of a full committee, President Md Iqbal Hossain said that no decision has been made yet, but updates will be provided later.
The controversy began after a report was published on Friday by Tanzid Mahmud in the "Daily Sangbad," claiming that several social, cultural, and journalistic organizations at Jagannath University were linked to Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Following this, 16 university organizations, along with the university's branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir, expressed their protest.
These organizations denied any affiliation with Islami Chhatra Shibir, asserting that the report contained misleading information.
