Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, has declared that there will be no peace until those responsible for attacks on protesters are brought to justice, including the police, members of the Chhatra League, and associates of Sheikh Hasina.
"We will not rest until we see justice for those who attacked my brothers and sisters," said Sarjis during an exchange meeting with students and citizens at Osmani Stadium in Narayanganj city on Tuesday afternoon.
He demanded the immediate arrest of the "identified terrorists" who opened fire on the protesters.
Sarjis also criticized the manipulation of youth by political forces, adding: "Twenty years from now, many of you will be MPs, ministers, or even the prime minister from this very Narayanganj. But some people are using our young generation for their own interests, calling them by names like the ‘Kishore Gang.’ These young men are being exploited as tools. You will not be anyone’s baton; you will thrive on your own merits."
Addressing issues of drug trade and extortion in Narayanganj, Sarjis condemned those running businesses by exploiting large groups of people: "Students will not support the extortion that ranges from footpaths to garments, from markets to auto stands. The thriving drug business in Narayanganj will not have student support either."
He further emphasized that the students would not tolerate dictatorial actions from any political party, remarking on Sheikh Hasina's 16-year rule: "Fascist Hasina has filed false cases, unjustly imprisoned people, and sent many to DB custody. If any other party behaves similarly after her government falls, will we support them? No."
Sending a message to the youth, Sarjis said: "The young generation dreams of a beautiful Bangladesh. When the time comes, we will take to the streets, raise slogans, and risk our lives. If necessary, we will expel fascists like Sheikh Hasina and lead a mass uprising like the one in 2024. But for the youth to become capable leaders, they must pursue education and self-development."
Earlier in the day, Sarjis met with the families of those killed and injured in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Narayanganj, promising to assist in securing justice and providing necessary medical help.
