As the issue of the recent meeting between Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the BNP, and Mujahidul Islam Selim, former president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), remains unclear, it has stirred significant intrigue and speculation in the political sphere.
According to multiple reliable political sources, Mirza Fakhrul met with Mujahidul Islam Selim held a meeting in Gulshan on Sunday.
Sources told Bangla Tribune on Monday afternoon that Mirza Fakhrul has been engaging with top leaders and prominent figures of leftist, progressive, and democratic political parties in recent days.
On Sunday night, BNP's secretary general left Dhaka for medical treatment.
Before heading to Singapore, he met with political leaders over the past few days.
When asked about the meeting, Selim did not provide a direct answer.
However, he mentioned that it is nothing significant.
“Discussions between political parties must continue. We are involved in the movement to restore democracy. Even during Ershad's time, discussions took place between BNP and other political parties."
The prominent leftist leader added: “I believe that discussions should also involve the interim government. They need to start dialogues with political parties.”
Sources indicate that in recent meetings, Mirza Fakhrul mainly discussed experiences from the One-Eleven period, moving towards inclusive elections, and involving parties outside the main alliance to demand fair elections.
A reliable BNP source revealed that during a meeting with the chief advisor last Thursday, the party reiterated its commitment to providing “uninterrupted cooperation.”
Mirza Fakhrul also commented after the meeting that the discussions were "extremely productive."
In an interview with Bangla Tribune, Mujahidul Islam Selim said: "The government needs to undertake several tasks and implement reforms. It may take three months or even six months to address these issues. The key is to first specify what reforms are needed and how long they will take. These issues must be formulated as quickly as possible, but without rushing. We have conveyed our thoughts to the Chief Advisor during the meeting."
