BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party is open to providing a reasonable timeframe to the interim government to oversee a general election.

"We want to give the government time, but they must bring all political parties to a position of trust," Fakhrul said during a press interaction in Sylhet on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Mirza Fakhrul visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Shah Paran.

He advised the interim government not to be discouraged by the demands of the BNP, underscoring that the party's objective is to ensure a fair and credible election.

In his address, Fakhrul also criticized former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, saying she is widely disliked by the majority of the population.

He accused Hasina of misleading the Bangladeshi people through various tactics.

Furthermore, Fakhrul claimed that India is attempting to exert control over Bangladesh by using the water of shared rivers as a strategic tool.

The event was attended by Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury and acting president of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Miftah Siddiqui.
