Police recently visited the Baridhara residence of the late senior lawyer Barrister Mainul Hosein, an advisor to a former caretaker government, to execute a warrant.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a team of policemen arrived with the warrant papers related to a case, as reported by the Daily Manab Zamin.
At the time of the visit, no family members were present at the house.
The police inquired about Mainul’s whereabouts from the household staff, who informed them of his death.
The police then requested to see his death certificate, which was subsequently shown to them, after which they left the premises.
Mainul’s son, Javed Hossain, told Manab Zamin: “We are abroad with our family. Police came to the house on Monday with a warrant issued for my father. The house staff showed them the death certificate, and the police left afterwards.”
He also mentioned that the staff could not identify which police station the officers were from.
The residence of Mainul Hosein is located on Embassy Road in Baridhara, within the jurisdiction of Gulshan police.
On Wednesday afternoon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan police station Mazharul Islam clarified: “The Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate’s Second Court had requested a report regarding Barrister Hossain’s death. A police officer from Gulshan police station visited the house to obtain the report. The death certificate was collected from the staff, and we will now send the death report to the court.”
Mainul served as the law, information, and land adviser to the interim government from January 2007 to January 2008. He was also the former editorial board president of the Daily Ittefaq.
Mainul Hosein passed away on December 9 last year at the age of 83.
He was the elder son of the Daily Ittefaq founder-editor Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah.
