Following the High Court order staying the effectiveness of Buet's decision to ban political organizations and activities on campus, its Vice-Chancellor Prof Satya Prasad Majumder said they have to comply with what the High Court order says.
Buet VC Prof Satya Prasad Majumder told journalists: "We have to comply with what the court order says, and we cannot be accused of contempt of court.”
He further noted: "As of now, we have not received the High Court order. Once we receive it, we will initiate the necessary legal procedures."
Earlier, in response to a writ petition filed by Buet student and central Chhatra League leader Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi, the High Court bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar issued the stay order against Buet's directive.
Rabbi filed the writ petition contesting the legality of the "emergency notice" issued by Buet authorities, which banned all political organizations and their activities on October 11, 2019.
The ban on student politics was imposed following the tragic murder of second-year student Abrar Fahad by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League members at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7, 2019.
