BNP Vice Chairman and former minister Major (retired) Hafizuddin Ahmed was released after five days from Keraniganj Central Jail.
The court granted the bail application on the condition of appeal in a case of sabotage in the capital's Gulshan police station on Sunday.
He was released from prison at 7pm that day.
Before this, on the morning of March 5, he surrendered in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court denied bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
Defendant's lawyer Md Aminul Islam (Feroz) gave this information.
He said: “Against that order, we filed a criminal appeal in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court. After the hearing, the court granted his bail application.”
On December 28, 2023, the same court sentenced him to 21 months imprisonment in two separate clauses. According to the complaint, at 7:25pm on June 4, 2011, the accused attacked and obstructed the police from illegal assembly on the road in front of Mohakhali Wireless Gate water tank of Gulshan police station. They vandalized cars on the road and set them on fire.
After investigating the case on April 29, 2014, Gulshan police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamrul Hasan Talukder filed the charge sheet in the court.
On April 25, 2022, the court ordered the trial to be started by framing charges against the accused in the case.
